Requirements for Letters of Responsibility and Apology

  1. Letters should be in the form of letter and be at least 1 page long.  (See back for letter format.)
  2. Letters should only address YOUR actions, not anyone else’s.
  3. Letters should convey that you have taken full responsibility for your actions and the impact they have had on others.

    Components of a letter:
  1. Tell what you did and what you were thinking at the time (not excuses, just something to help the reader understand you and your actions better).
  2. Talk about the impact of your actions.
  3. Talk about how you feel and what you have learned from this experience.

Note: It is important to admit your fault in the action. Blaming the person or people who were hurt only indicates that you are not willing to accept your full responsibility.  (See point #3.)
